They're breaking their bones, lacerating their skins, dislocating their joints...what's the deal?

You see these extreme sports persons sustaining injuries throughout their training and one Xtreme Sports Insurance (XSI) has announced the release of affordable accident insurance for extreme and action sports athletes.

XSI covers all action sports, including motocross and snowmobilers. After sustaining an injury, an insured athlete fills out the necessary paperwork, submits proof of injury from a doctor, and receives the corresponding benefit. Accordingly, the benefits vary, based on severity of the injury, but most bone breaks, dislocations, ligament injuries, and skin lacerations have an associated benefit.

News about extreme sports that are fodder for internet mill are hardly to come by. You kind of stumble upon, like dealing with any extreme sport for a real thrill. This one is something of interest because extreme sports lovers among us, the BMXing lot especially, are in for some tinkering into a Social Networking Site . At least, at best, it puts us to our own league - the thing they call 'niche'.

...dzine it, inc. (http://www.dzineit.net), a lader in web design, software development, and online media, has been awarded a contract to build and implement 5starskate.com, a website dedicated to the extreme skateboarding /BMX marketplace.

“The people behind 5starskate.com set out to build something that will not only tap into that market, but provide a social network for fans and participants of these sports.”

The concept of site is to allow skate and BMX enthusiasts to compete against one another, online, by posting videos of their skills that will be rated by other participants and visitors. 5starskate.com will also use the website as a marketplace, to sell a wide range of merchandise related to the sports.

Can Extreme Be Safe?

Brace, perhaps. That's how to practice extreme safety when doing an extreme sport. How to do them without getting hurt is nearly impossible. We've seen the pros injured with knuckles exposed and all that. Part of the job. That simple. I figured they're paid well to take those risks. They spend their entire lives mastering their skills to the point where those risks are manageable.

I figured, again, will they ever master? And this I learned: extreme sportsmen are keen about their training but the best way that they get better is they make staying healthy a serious business.

And then like one "extremist" telling me some safety rules which, generally, apply to alll extreme sports:

Know your limits. This is the most important rule in any extreme sport, whether you're climbing a mountain, surfing the ocean, or skateboarding downtown. Knowing what you are and aren't capable of actually makes you bettr at your sport. It gives you the ability to understand when you're ready to move on to the next level.
Control the risk. Mountain bike racers always pre-ride the courses they compete on. Dirt jumpers others jumping before they make an attempt. The point is that knowing all the variables increases yourn chances of success - and decreases the chances of injury.
Keep your equipment in perfect shape. Top pros in all extreme sports have one advantage over amateurs: access to new perfectly maintained equipment. Even though most people have to take care of their own gear instead of having a mechanic or a factory representative deal with it for them. You can still give yourself the pro advantage by knowing how your gear works and what it takes to keep it in shape, and making sure that you never go out with anything that's not in complete working order.
Wear safety gear. Different extreme sports have different attitudes about safety gear. But that's changing. Whether its biking or skateboarding, helmets are essential. Other sports require additional specialized safety equipment. You should know what's needed to keep you protected from accidents and the elements in any sport you choose.

Whoa! Loving 'em extreme!

First off, getting started with an extreme sport requires extreme safety. These fanatics have seen the action - and what goes around, literally. To tumble and shred is part of the game. You wonder if safety is even on the loop of things.

Whoa!!! Wild!!! - that, even, is an understatement. Yeah, some of them can be extremely dangerous however they're usually being an 'individual' - those daredevils who think independently and engage sports as a form of self-expression; of getting in touch with their wilder sides.

And what's extreme sports without movement. Lots of it! A feeling that one is in control of what they do and where they go. On snow, on concrete, on caves, on dirt, on trails, on skies, on waters.

FYI, surfing was the first true extreme sport. And it looks like extreme sports is the future of sports. Right on bungee jumping!

So what's extreme to you? Surfing, skateboarding, in-line skating, snowboarding, rock climbing, cade diving, sky diving, bungee jumping, mountain biking, BMXing?

Those extreme kinds. We'll soak them all here. Without getting hurt.
